I dyed my hair a ugly blond and want to dye it brown. Should i or will it turn my hair to straw?
Well I would use a deep conditioner first. And then go to a professional to dye it. Then can either highlight it to make it look better or do a full dye. Then ask them if they can do a conditioning treatment (usually runs about $10) I would go highlights, they can put 1-2 other colors to help blend it then you would probably be surprised on how nice it looks.

Are you dying it from a box? If so then wash it a bunch of times, but don't dry it out then redye it within like a week.

If you go get it done at a salon, it won't! Last year i tried to put blonde highlights in my dark brown hair and it looked awful! I got it dyed my natural color again 2 days later, and 2 more times since because it wore out, and my hair is just as soft as ever!

I think If I were you I would dye it all brown...I have done this before and It did not damage my hair. If your hair does not feel bad right now, It will be fine..Putting color in your hair can actually restore it and make it softer

a semipermanent has less chemicals in it, and darker colors have less peroxide, so the condition of your hair should be fine. I went from platinum blonde to dark brown. I had to keep getting it touched up though because hair that has been dyed blonde is more porous and doesn't hold color long. I would see a professional colorist...don't try this at home.

If you have bleached it blond then DO NOT put brown dye on it it will turn green, because brown dye no longer contains red. You will need to have a filler put on first than a light shade of brown after. If your color is blond from a Permanent blond color, you can start to darken it by putting a very light brown on the roots for 25 minutes and then pull it through the ends. Be sure to condition after your done %26amp; it should be fine provided your hair was in good shape to begin with. If it wasn't then condition it well before attempting to recolor. Best to see a pro for goof proofing.

well wait atleast a half month before you put anymore dye in it you don't want to over bear it with chemicals and you have to becareful to make sure the other dye doesnt makes a terrible reaction and makes a horrible color..my mom did that.. she dyed her hair blonde and then three days later dyed it brown and it turned an ugly orangish color...so give it time to kinda fade... hope i helped..

Is your hair still in fairly good condition? If so, a color done properly and using quality product, will not turn your into "straw".
I highly recommend that you have this service performed in a salon by a qualified color professional. However........there is the off chance that this is simply not an option for you. With that in mind I will give you some advice on how to go about fixing your color. :)
I am going to assume that when you say your hair is an ugly blonde that it is a light ugly blonde. Your first step is to perform a deep conditioning treatment on your hair. Choose a product that actually works on inner hair structure. I recommend Redken's Extreme Deep Fuel http://redken.com/products/displayProduc...
This will assure total and even coverage of your desired color.
The next step is to fill the hair. Filling the hair is essential to achieving a good brown color in the end. By turning your hair blonde you have removed all the base colors needed to achieve brown so they must be replaced. If this is not done, your hair color will not take properly and will appear muddy. Muddy is ugly. Choose a color in the darkest blonde or lightest brown with red overtones. Such as a very light auburn.
Get a trusted friend who has some talent playing with hair to help you with this. Part the hair down the center of the head from the front hairline to the nape (neckline) and clip the sections away. Then take each of those section and split them with a part from the crown (top of head) to just behind the ear. Clip the sections away. Start the application with one of the back sections, move to the next back section, then repeat on each front section. Take down the first section and using a tail comb slice out a 1/4 inch section of hair horizontally. Apply color to the section from 2 inches from the scalp to within 1 inch of the ends. Continue in this manner through all the sections. Return to the first colored section and apply to the scalp area. When this is completed wait ten minutes and return to the first colored section and apply color to the ends of the hair. Continue through each section.
Process this color for a total of 2/3 the amount of time recommended on the box. Wash the color out thoroughly and condition the hair. If you have the time to wait, then allow the hair to dry naturally. If not then blow dry it with the lowest setting on your dryer. Be gentle with your hair and do not use tension with a brush while drying. Comb gently.
Now for the final color. Do not choose a very dark brown color. Box colors tend to appear almost black when you use their dark browns. Choose a nice golden medium brown. Apply the color in the same manner as described for the fill color and process for the full recommended amount of time.
Processing time begins once the color is on the mid sections and scalp area.
The person applying your color needs to apply it fairly quickly and be sure the hair is completely covered. Be sure you have enough color on hand to cover ALL of your hair.
NOTE: I see many color disasters. Coloring the hair is a very technical process and in order for it to be done "right", the best thing to do is have a professional perform the service. Color theory and an understanding of the chemical process gives us the advantage of knowing exactly what will happen with every move we make. If you choose to have a professional do your color, then be sure to interview your colorist. Ask them what additional color training they have had. If they stumble and don't have a direct and complete answer for you, then move on to a different colorist. That may sound harsh, but it is important to have someone doing your hair that takes their career seriously and has recieved the necessary additional training it takes to be a serious colorist.
